Lake Bled is a small alpine lake with a tiny island church at its center and a clifftop castle overlooking the water, framed by the Julian Alps — one of the most photographed views in Europe. It's compact enough to see as a day trip from Ljubljana, but staying overnight lets you enjoy the lake without the day-tripper crowds.

May-September offers the warmest weather for rowing a traditional pletna boat to the island church or walking the lakeshore path. Winter brings a quieter, snow-dusted version of the same views, popular with photographers.
