Dubrovnik's massive stone walls encircle an Old Town so well preserved it doubled as King's Landing in Game of Thrones — walking the full wall loop gives sweeping views of terracotta roofs and the Adriatic. It's also a common cruise-ship stop, so the Old Town can get very crowded midday in peak season.
May-June and September offer warm Adriatic swimming weather with noticeably fewer crowds and lower prices than July-August. Arriving early morning or staying overnight lets you see the Old Town without the day-tripper crowds.
