Hamburg is Germany's main port city, built around a huge harbor and the Speicherstadt warehouse district (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), with the striking Elbphilharmonie concert hall as its modern architectural centerpiece. It's a green, canal-laced city with more bridges than Venice and Amsterdam combined.
May-September offers the mildest weather for harbor boat tours and walking the Speicherstadt. Hamburg's nightlife district around the Reeperbahn is famous and runs late, a different side of the city from its historic warehouses and museums.
