Plovdiv Travel Guide: Flights & Hotels

Bulgaria · PDV

Plovdiv claims to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe, with a beautifully restored Old Town of 19th-century houses built over a working Roman amphitheater still used for concerts today. It was a European Capital of Culture and remains far less visited — and cheaper — than most cities its size.

May-June and September offer mild weather for wandering the cobbled Old Town and catching a summer concert in the Roman amphitheater if timed right. Plovdiv makes an easy add-on to a Sofia trip, about 2 hours away by car or train.
