Riga has the largest collection of Art Nouveau buildings in Europe, entire streets of them, alongside a compact medieval old town and a large central market housed in former Zeppelin hangars. It remains one of the more affordable Baltic capitals for a first-time visit.
May-September offers the mildest weather for walking the Art Nouveau district and old town squares. Riga is very walkable, and its central market is one of the best, cheapest places in the Baltics to try local food.
